Israeli military operations across the occupied West Bank have intensified in recent weeks, with widespread raids targeting Palestinian towns and refugee camps. The latest wave of incursions has struck areas including Tubas, Tammun, Tulkarem, Ramallah, Hebron, Bethlehem, and Nablus, resulting in civilian deaths, mass arrests, and the destruction of homes and infrastructure.
According to Palestinian health officials and human rights organizations, at least 1,009 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 injured in the West Bank since October 2023. These figures include victims of both Israeli military actions and settler violence. The Palestinian Prisoner Society reports that over 18,000 Palestinians have been detained during this period, with approximately 10,800 currently held in Israeli prisons—including 450 children and 50 women.
In one of the most recent incidents, Israeli forces raided the Al-Fawwar refugee camp in Hebron, detaining dozens of individuals, including former prisoners who had been released in earlier swap agreements. The re-arrest of these individuals has been condemned by Palestinian groups as a violation of negotiated terms and an act of systematic persecution.
Elsewhere, in the town of al-Khader near Bethlehem, two Palestinian teenagers—15-year-old Ahmad Ali Asaad Ashira al-Salah and 17-year-old Muhammad Khaled Alian Issa—were shot and killed by Israeli soldiers. Their bodies were withheld by the military, and two other children were reportedly injured in the same incident.
Israeli settler violence has also surged, with over 2,200 attacks reported between January 2024 and June 2025. These assaults have led to the displacement of nearly 36,000 Palestinians, the destruction of homes, and the burning of agricultural lands. In Taybeh, a Christian Palestinian town near Ramallah, settlers torched vehicles, vandalized homes with racist graffiti, and targeted religious sites, including the historic Church of St. George.
Human rights experts argue that these actions are part of a broader strategy aimed at making life untenable for Palestinians in the West Bank. The forced displacement, demolition of homes, and aggressive military tactics are seen as efforts to pressure Palestinians into leaving their land, thereby facilitating Israeli settlement expansion and undermining prospects for a future Palestinian state.
The Israeli government has defended its operations as counter-terror measures, citing alleged Iranian support for militant groups in Jenin and Tulkarem. However, critics—including international legal bodies—have challenged the legality of Israel’s occupation. In July 2025, the International Court of Justice issued a landmark opinion declaring the occupation of Palestinian territories illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
As the situation continues to deteriorate, calls for international intervention have grown louder. Palestinian officials have urged global powers to hold Israel accountable for what they describe as war crimes and violations of international law. Meanwhile, humanitarian organizations warn of a deepening crisis, with thousands of displaced families struggling to find shelter and basic necessities.
This escalation in the West Bank unfolds alongside Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza, further complicating regional stability and drawing condemnation from human rights advocates worldwide.
